I think the 16 year olds of today are much more informed than "we" were at this age. Still, I am not sure this is a smart move. They can't legally smoke, drink, drive a car unsupervised BUT they can now vote? Compulsory voting can save British democracy - New Statesman Endless arguments about compulsory voting around the globe.
