I just finished listening to the conference call. Here are a few highlights not contained in the press release. Profitability- NEWZ expects to approach breakeven by end of third quarter this year and profitable in 4th quarter! Merger charge- around 12 million in 1st quarter 98 (they currently have 47 million in cash). Margins should stay steady or rise but where they expect to make money is in increased productivity of current employees. Cross selling will be a main focus for revenue in 98 with acquisition of new customers playing a more predominant role in following years.
They now control 38% of the market and are 2 1/2 times the size of their next largest (and unidentified) competitor. Desktop revenue has been growing at about 18% per customer per year. They see the combined company as increasing this per centage. Sales forces were combined 6 weeks ago so now company should hit the ground selling. The two companies are located across the highway from each other so the merger process has been greatly facilitated by their physical proximity.

The overall tone was very positive. They will be presenting a Robertson-Stevens (spelling?) on Thursday at 8:00 a.m. right before Bill Clinton (at least that is how i understood it) and also with H&Q and another brokerage within the next month or two. Expect several positive announcements from the company with at least one this week.
