I vaguely remember the first time I saw the much ballyhooed Tiger play. It was his last amateur tournament where I think he was losing but somehow he and the other guy ended up tied. Then the other guy missed a putt that would have given him the match, then screwed up on the next hole to give Tiger the win. Meanwhile, the massive crowd is hooting and hollering for Tiger who is pumping his fists while the poor other guy was just trying to concentrate. I was confused whether it was Tiger's play or his style of play that had everyone rooting for him. Looking at the Scottie comparison, there's no question the latter sort of bravado -- when you win -- can vault you to legend status.

My other takeaway was that Tiger and Scottie were better in their late 20s than even Bob was at that same age. I think even he will admit to that.
