Here is a rumor that I heard was circulating around Wall Street late today....that IDTI was feeling out Cypress Semi about a merger. It seems that their SRAM product are compatible but somewhat overlapping and a merger would allow a streamlined product line, a reduction in idle plant capacity (and hence the ability to jettison excess fabs and their money drain) and firmer SRAM prices. The deal has been speculated about for quite some time, but made no sense until the Asian fabs stopped producing below cost. Now that the Asians are out of the market, the time is ripe. Anyone else hear this?
