Before I got my Dell Pro Rugged, I used to travel with a LaCie external hard drive. On one trip, I was returning to Canada after being away for five weeks. At Customs, they grew suspicious because I had no luggage and nothing to declare and asked to inspect the hard drive.

They took it to the back and tried to access it, but it was password-protected. When they asked for the password, I told them I couldn’t remember it. I explained that I brought the hard drive purely for security as a backup, and I hadn’t used it while traveling.

That only made them more suspicious. I told them the password was the VIN number of my truck, which was parked outside. I figured they wouldn’t actually check, but somehow, they tracked it down. After another 30 minutes, they returned and said there was nothing on the drive. I apologized and said I must have forgotten to back it up before leaving.

The whole ordeal took nearly two hours.
