Not just raw IQ, it’s also contextual awareness, empathy, and flexibility of thought. Cognitive Processing, 2017 suggest those with higher IQs, especially abstract reasoning skills, tend to enjoy and understand sophisticated humour more readily. People with brain injuries in the prefrontal cortex often struggle with sarcasm and humour, areas linked to executive function and empathy. Autism spectrum disorders, which can involve difficulties with social and verbal subtleties, also highlight how important cognitive and emotional processing is for sarcasm recognition. I guess I'm asking, were you dropped on your head as an infant?
