BPSOX was first brought to my attention by Gottfried before he basically aged out on posting here at Silicon Investor.

Back when he first started posting BPSOX I argued that it was a late in determining trend changes.

It is useful however, mostly in telling an investor when the SOX is ridiculously oversold, as opposed to marking a trend change at the top.

Les's data is excellent and generally much better on short term trend changes. But you can get a lot of those even in a long term bull market.

The BPSOX shows that there is some weakness in the market despite the recent all time highs. As we head into August and September I would not be surprised to see the overall market sell off due to seasonality if for no other reason.

The SOX leads both up and down. It usually leads down in August and September and then bottoms in October:
