Arnie, care to do some speculating about the LMDS auction?

While the auction is far from over, it does appear evident the Next-es came to play ball, and brought their starting line-up to do the bidding.

But IMHO the action will not end after the auction, it may very well just be the beginning. I anticipate much wheeling and dealing after the auction in attempt to gain a larger slice of the pie. I don't believe McCaw would be satisfied with half a pie. As we know he thinks big.

Because Next-es doesn't qualify for a discount at the auction they may be better off negotiating for spectrum after the auction, through leases, agreements, etc.

The WNP Communication venture with their $100 million deposit and hefty discount would seem to be the likely candidate. I can't believe they have any desire to be in the communications business, other than holding a valuable spectrum license.

If they don't bid each other up, they could both prosper, and maybe steal the show.

Of course this is all pure speculation.

Ron
