Good question Brendan. I also asked about this to some people. i didn't get a solid answer but i found out that Standard & Poors has the sole authority to add/delete any company they want and it is not determined purely on the sales or market cap alone. Basically if S&P thinks IOM is a hot company to add in the index, they can. Someone give me more info since i think this info is bit vague.

Oh. BTW, MSFT got added to the S & P index only in mid 94. cisco was
added in 93 i think. ADBE which is < 1 Bil in revenue got added last year. I am not able to find a pattern here.
