The recent Cambodia Thailand flare up has nothing to do with a disputed temple along a long disputed border. The Chinese are building a dam that effects all neighboring countries. Cambodia is poor and unsure its dictator cares much after he gets his "tea money". Laos is even poorer but effectively communist and more of a vassal state to China, imo. Thailand and China have been in competition for 15-20 years to build and control dams on the main rivers of Laos.

In another matter, long term ideally China would like to build a canal, maybe 100 miles across an isthmus of southern Thailand/Myanmar to bypass the Strait of Mallaca.
