Dr. Marty Makary, commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration, said Monday evening that he was encouraging Dr. Vinay Prasad, the agency’s former vaccine chief, to come back to the agency. Last week, Dr. Prasad resigned under pressure from far-right influence Laura Loomer, among others. She dredged up old posts and audio of Dr. Prasad expressing admiration for Sen. Bernie Sanders and criticizing President Trump. Dr. Makary said that it is “simply untrue” that Dr. Prasad was pushed out. “He saw some media headlines and didn’t want to be a distraction,” he said. “We have encouraged him to reconsider, and we’re still doing that.”
