Brian ... See article by Larry Dignan, financial editor of TechInvestor in TECHWIRE (can find it under Favorites in SI).
Betwenn October 13-16, there is an important conference of
CIOs in Florida where S. Case states his case. I am quoting
from the article:

<<Not everyone bought into Case's outlook. Allen Weiner, an online analyst for Dataquest, said ISPs are taking away many of AOL's value-added content features through their own alliances, and AOL is having problems keeping subscribers.

"They've got to be tired of people using their disks for 10 hours and then just popping in another or leaving." he said referring to AOL's trademark marketing disks.

AOL can make the case that everyone who isn't on the Internet is their audience, said Weiner. But that may not last for long because ISPs such as AT&T can tap into a 90 million captive audience. To meet AT&T's marketing might, the company would put a lot of pressureon its operating margins.>>

Microsoft will include an AT&T icon in its Explorer browser which is also used by AOL. In my opinion, AOL made a strategic mistake when it signed up with MSFT to use its browser for Internet access. Not it will have to play to MSFT's tune and pay the piper. Thus, I came to the conclusion that MSFT might decide to attain larger critical mass by acquiring AOL at much lower prices than present market value. Cannot say whether it will be $20 or $ 15 or $ 12 or $ 5/ share due to timing and fast changes in the industry.

Best of luck, CA
