Mr. Crawford, all I'm saying is that Tellabs has been in business for a long time _with the same management in place_ during all that time. The management team is seasoned; it has been through a couple economic cycles; it knows what it takes other than cutting edge technology to compete; it knows how to manage growth.

In time Ciena may or may not prove to have the same management depth as Tellabs, as time will tell. There is simply no way of knowing until Ciena management faces its first big competitive challenge. Lucent, Nortel, Pirelli and Alcatel are all in the DWDM business. None are them are slouches. Ciena's team would have to be very good.

Now, it is also possible that since the telecomm market is growing so fast, every equipment company would make money regardless of management depth.

I would speculate that a bruised Ciena would make a very tempting takeover target by a Tellabs or a Cisco.
