What is unique here is that the founder was willing to give up his baby to a stranger and the stranger was willing to passionately adopt it.

Generally speaking people don't like to give up control of their company because they see it as an extension of themselves and their dreams. Similarly, few people are as passionate about someone else's idea as they are about their own. So this is a pretty unique happenstance.
