Almost all of the data being generated is readily available from many other satellites.

I don't believe that is true, these are specifically linked to track greenhouse gases. The satellites provide valuable data on plant growth, aiding in crop yield predictions, drought monitoring, and forecasting potential food shortages, which can lead to instability. Public science for the public good.

If they are precious, then someone at NASA should come up with $15M/year to save them. This is how budgets work.
