LG Display is accelerating its conquest of the organic light-emitting diode (OLED) gaming monitor market with its "world's first" technology.

According to industry sources on the 10th, LG Display plans to release an OLED panel with a 540Hz refresh rate in the second half of this year. A 540Hz refresh rate means the screen refreshes 540 times per second, allowing users to detect changes in game situations more quickly than other users.

This is the world's best technology, surpassing the 500Hz presented by competitors.

LG Display explained that the product can achieve ultra-high refresh rates of up to 720 Hz, depending on user needs, by applying Dynamic Refresh Rate & Resolution (DFR) technology. DFR technology allows users to select their preferred refresh rate mode.

Major global manufacturers are reportedly reviewing the product for release. LG Display is expected to begin mass production of its 540Hz OLED gaming panel as planned within the year. This product is considered suitable for fast-paced games such as first-person shooters (FPS) and racing games.

LG Electronics unveiled this product for the first time at 'K-Display 2025' held at COEX in Seoul from the 7th to the 9th, ahead of mass production. It also unveiled to the public for the first time a 45-inch 5K2K OLED panel, the highest resolution among existing OLED monitor panels.

According to global market research firm Omdia, the OLED monitor market is expected to exceed 3.3 million units in shipments, a 59% increase year-on-year.

OLED currently accounts for only the low to mid-10% share of the overall gaming monitor market based on shipment volume, but it is expected to maintain double-digit growth rates until 2028, pushing out liquid crystal displays (LCDs) and establishing itself as the market leader.

The event venue was filled with a large number of visitors, who showed great interest by standing in long lines.

LG Display set up a dedicated gaming monitor zone within its booth and offered hands-on experience with these products. For example, a game was set up to demonstrate how monitor panel performance can affect game response times. Visitors were asked to record their time by quickly clicking the left mouse button when an enemy appeared on screen in high-refresh rate mode (330Hz).

Reaction times are recorded in seconds, and rankings appear on the screen. For added fun, phrases like "You are the future of e-sports" appear on the monitor for good scores.

The area was packed with a large crowd of visitors in their 20s and 30s, including college students, who took waiting tickets and waited in line for 20 to 30 minutes, demonstrating consumers' anticipation for the new product.

VIPs who attended the opening ceremony on the 7th, including Lee Cheong, Chairman of the Korea Display Industry Association and President of Samsung Display, and Jeong Cheol-dong, President of LG Display, also showed deep interest.

One visitor wearing a college student name tag said, "The screen responds immediately when I move the mouse, so I feel like my aiming is more accurate and faster," while another expressed interest by asking, "Is this a product that's just been released? How much is it?"

An LG Electronics official on site said, "OLED gaming monitors are popular, and I can feel that the panel performance has improved. I personally want to buy one and use it at home."

Currently, the global gaming monitor market is virtually divided between Samsung Display and LG Display.

An LG Display official said, "We will overcome the limitations of OLED monitors with cutting-edge technologies such as ultra-high refresh rates and ultra-high picture quality, and target the premium market by providing differentiated customer-centered value."
