LiDAR is revolutionizing surveying and mapping. Essentially LiDAR is the current most accurate measuring device available. Not only distance but 3D measuring. imho LiDAR devices will supplant cameras going forward in many applications. Cameras are, of course 2D with some perception of depth but only based on innate perception of size.

The use cases for 3D measuring are countless.
