  • A career intelligence officer on the House Intelligence Committee (Democrat) warned the FBI in 2017 that then-Rep. Adam Schiff approved leaking classified information to damage then- President Trump during the Russiagate controversy.

  • The whistleblower described the leaks as “unethical,” “illegal,” and “treasonous,” and said Schiff believed he would be protected under the Constitution’s Speech and Debate Clause, though no formal legal opinion supports that claim.

  • The whistleblower said he attended an all-staff meeting where Schiff directed staffers to leak classified info to “indict President Trump,” and when he objected, other staff responded they wouldn’t get caught.

  • DOJ officials reportedly showed little interest in pursuing the allegations, citing Schiff’s claim of Speech and Debate protection.

  • FBI 302 memos related to the matter were later turned over to Congress, with concerns that the leaks were used to weaponize intelligence and law enforcement for political purposes, eroding public trust in institutions.
