Things continue to get worse at both the western and eastern ends of Canada.

Here in BC, a new fire sparked on Vancouver Island on Tuesday and has already spread to over 20 sq km, cutting off a highway and cutting power to a community. Luckily we are supposed to get a decent amount of rain on Friday, which won't break the drought but will help with the fires.

Things are much worse in Newfoundland, which is experiencing historically hot and dry weather. Another set of fires has begun and the evacuations are now over 20k people. Alas, there is no rain in sight there.

I was talking to a friend in Nova Scotia and people just aren't ready for this unprecedented weather. This is the first time people have been kept out of the woods for more than a few days and some are having real trouble accepting the open fire bans, even with the new $50k+ fines.
