Because people like you ask obviously stupid questions. Instead of learning about how things are, they want things like they want them to be and try to play games to work the system. So judges and lawyers have to break things down into minute detail to keep y'all from plugging up the system with frivolities. Con men have been around forever. The legal system exists so there is some option other than just killing them, however desirable and efficient that may seem at times.
