Controversial festival won’t go ahead in Leitrim after 500 people including Irish artists sign letter

A controversial festival which was the subject of a petition signed by over 500 people including by actor Chris O’Dowd, Christy Moore and Frances Black has been cancelled.

Mise Éire was set to take place at the Mayflower Community Hall in Drumshambo, Co Leitrim, on August 23.

The festival was described as being ‘for those who cherish Irish culture, heritage, and are united in celebrating our shared values.’

Over 400 tickets were sold for the event which was advertised as aiming to promote the Irish language, music, culture, and traditions with a variety of live music, talks, and workshops planned.

However, concerns were raised locally that it was a ‘far right’ event.

On Wednesday morning, it was confirmed the event will no longer be hosted in the community centre.
