Trump says he will not approve any more wind or solar power projects

President Trump said Wednesday that his administration will not issue any more approvals for new solar and wind energy projects, the first time he has explicitly stated he would block any new solar projects, previously reserving that action for wind projects.

"Any state that has built and relied on WINDMILLS and SOLAR for power are seeing RECORD BREAKING INCREASES IN ELECTRICITY AND ENERGY COSTS... THE SCAM OF THE CENTURY!" Trump posted.

Electricity prices have jumped in the past year, although most experts point to factors that include increased demand from data centers and manufacturing after years of relatively flat growth.

The president's latest attack on renewables comes a day after the U.S. Department of Agriculture said it was ending programs that provide financial support to clean energy on productive farmland, a move that could present challenges to farmers who have been helped by federal incentives to diversify income amid low crop prices.

Nearly 120K used solar panels in 2022, up 30% from 2017, and another 14,500 farms had wind turbines, according to the most recent data from the USDA.
