Samsung and SK Hynix slash NAND spending as SK Hynix unveils 321-layer breakthrough

digitimes.com

The article is behind a paywall, but it says that Samsung and SK are cutting spending on NAND because other segments (mainly DRAM and HBM) are much more profitable.

I think this is probably very good news for SIMO. It means down the road Samsung and SK are much less likely to spend to develop internal NAND controllers for PCs, autos and mobile. But.....even if those segments are not terribly profitable for the six NAND makers, each chip still needs a controller.

SIMO will make the controllers, and SK and Samsung can spend their R&D dollars something other than making new NAND controllers.

The future is ours!
