Siren sounds.......Lights flashing....OTOTOTOTOTOTOT Caution...Caution!!
Well Asia ain't just Korea. A real big country of 202 million, Indonesia, is of a great concern for the moment, for a couple of different reasons. If you think that the level of corruption or fraud is high in Korea, Suharto INC. is highly suspect.
Compound this by Indonesia is a card carrying member of OPEC. This place could turn ugly as in civil war or outward war with say the Chinese. That pretty much a reach, but it not that much of a reach as North vs the South in Korea.
Then there is India, which hasn't been touched so far by the Asian Flu. That is another large market that is in the middle of an election. Bloody stuff. Japan banking????
The problem with Europe is they are exporters, so you have to wonder if they are going to feel some effects. Nokia claimed not to be worried by Asia, we will see.
Europe is demonopolizing telecommunications. That sounds familar. What did NT and LU do with deregulation in the US; run up and split. Now I been fairly vocal about the 3G hubris and I make no amends for it, but if you think for one moment that Alcatel and Siemens are going to sit back an allow Ericsson and Nokia to rule the day in the rest of Europe, guess again. There is some animosity brewing.
As I vehemently denounce with Tero, the US isn't bound by a ruling of the ETSI. Sprint back me up on that. This matter is far from over and market demands and forces will determine the product mix not some homogonized "We are the World" standard. Frankly the CDG is closer to a multimedia CDMA than Ericsson today.
There isn't any rules that says you have to keep a radio channel 1.25 Mhz wide. There isn't any rule that says I can't design a variable rate vocoder to do voice and higher speed data. There is a growing market out there that wants it NOW!! Not 2002. Those companies that realize that and pursue it NOW will win. Who are they, LU, NT, Alcatel, Siemens and QCOM. Motorola is in the mix, but the folks seem to have made a huge miscalculation. If you are talking WLL then you better be deploying something that will do higher speed data, 14.4 won't get in the future. |
