Currently over 71% of Canada is enduring drought conditions. Here's an interesting interview with a drought expert

cbc.ca

Oddly, one of the few areas of southern Canada not experiencing drought is southern Saskatchewan and Alberta, normally the most drought-prone area of the country.

Both the Atlantic provinces and BC enjoyed a respite from the fires last week with cooler weather and rain, but now both are back in the heat. In BC we have been setting dozens of temperature records every day, and new fires are breaking out again. New Brunswick is the epicentre of the new fires out east.

The people of Bamfield on the west coast of Vancouver Island, who were threatened by a large fire ffinally have their power back after two weeks, but the main road will be out of commission for months. Fortunately there is an alternate route using logging roads, but it is not suitable for large vehicles.

Until recently fires were not considered to be a major threat on Vancouver Island, but due to what has happened in recent years this outlook is changing fast.
