After my MSEE in the early '90 I was looking for a PhD program. One of the programs was about vehicle to infrastructure communication. The professor touted it as the next big thing in automotive.

I didn't go for it but ever since I'm following the discussion. And that's it, a discussion with the exception of paying tolls.

It's a technology that has a lot of difficulties to get the critical mass for lift off.

Why would a car maker spend serious money to add this technology to the car. There is no infrastructure or other cars to talk to.

Government entities are not spending money because there are no cars to talk to

So it's a chicken and egg problem.

For it to make significant commercial progress stars and planets have to align.

I don't see how this can be any meaningful contributor to Qualcomm's revenues anytime soon
