Interestingly, Teller started out in chemistry, then moved into physics (of course they are closely related). In the long World of Stories interview he talks about Pauling with great respect. Teller's support for the development of the H-bomb cost him the friendship of most of his scientific colleagues. He saw the Soviet Union as a great threat, and as a Hungarian he knew something about Soviet-style communism.
