I should note that the ISM and S&P Global numbers are rarely aligned. When they are not aligned, the S&P Global numbers are almost always closer to the actual data.

I'm not sure why the media and markets prefer the ISM numbers. It could be something as simple as they're more accessible and less expensive to subscribe to. I worked with S&P Global about a year ago on some custom reporting, so I also have some familiarity with the company.

Anyway, there is a possibility that the ISM numbers released next week Tuesday and Thursday may not affirm the strong economic numbers that S&P Global reported last week, so it may take a couple of weeks before whatever discrepancies occur are resolved.
