Interesting interview Sunday with Dara Khosrowshahi the CEO of Uber. Part of the interview addresses the ramifications of the recent Uber-Waymo deal. Lots of people now understanding the rush to establish robotaxi businesses which will, with 99.99% certainty imho, include LiDAR and will eventually reach what might be called massive scale. It seems that riders prefer auto self driving to a human. Lots of possibilities both good and bad wrt meeting a new person via a taxi ride. Good possibilities for ride share companies for eliminating the cost of human drivers as well as the social/financial costs. Much like range anxiety the anxiety of transportation by robot needs to be overcome but those who have experienced Waymo seem to very quickly overcome that anxiety. My guess is that Ouster's Chronos chip is past the 'bring up' stage and is being sampled by multiple auto manufacturers. Chronos is designed specifically for ADAS, is solid-state and developed for high-volume automotive applications. The issue for ADAS large scale adoption has been form factor and cost.
