A Silveradoo 3500 with a trailer and Super Cruise can do what Aurora is doing and there is no lidar required. It's getting the driver out of the cab that saves the bucks. Up until then it's all just about safety and maybe a bit of efficiency via a more consistent effort. Level 2/3 is where ADAS resides today. Robots and such are just now reaching the level of electric city scooters which are an uber inconvenience to status quo driving. It's the psychology of the masses that needs to be overcome before a market gets beyond niche. ps What Amazon is doing does matter but that too is more alencompassing than lidar and yes, SLAM is a big deal.
