Shake Up at the Wall Street Journal Leads to Changes on Several Fronts
On Monday afternoon, Emma Tucker gathered some of the top editors at The Wall Street Journal and delivered a jolt: Marie Beaudette, the paper’s formidable financial editor who oversaw much of its core reporting muscle, had given notice earlier that day that she was resigning. Beaudette did not disclose what opportunity she was leaving for, but people familiar with the matter told me she is set to join CNN in an executive role (much more on that below).

Beaudette’s departure is no small matter. Her portfolio stretched across The Journal’s most essential coverage areas, such as business and technology, making her one of the most influential newsroom leaders. And her exit may be only the first of several seismic shifts. Charles Forelle, The Journal’s deputy editor in chief, is being eyed to take over Barron’s following the departure of its editor David Cho, who was recently recruited by CNBC. Reached for comment, Forelle referred me to a spokesperson. In a carefully worded statement, the spokesperson said, “Forelle is the deputy editor in chief of The Wall Street Journal and reports to the contrary are false.” Whether that remains the case, of course, remains to be seen.
