Craig,
Vixel's acquisition of Arcxel is interesting, no doubt. I agree with some people's viewpoint that as a hub vendor, they looked at themselves down the road a little bit and said, "Holy cow, if we don't have a way to upgrade our hub customers to switches when they demand it, we may be in trouble." I think Vixel's investment strategy is to grow from a hub to the switch. I think, by acquiring Arcxel, they took off some serious time in making their own switch.
The question for me is, will Arcxel have a decent product in the switch market? I believe Arcxel uses a technique called 'Stealth Mode' which I have talked about before... exchange2000.com I believe Vixel thinks this is very good technology, but i believe that 'Public Loop' is what LARGE OEMS WANT and Arcxel only has what is called 'Private Loop'. I believe that Ancor's MKII offers 'Public Loop.' Perhaps you can explain these technologies to me better or if I make any sense at all?
I thought that Arcxel barely had any employees and their product was ridiculously expensive at the same time it was engineered to shave costs, while losing functionality? Did Vixel buy for desperation? Perhaps someone here can better describe the Arcxel 8 port switch? Either way, I'm glad someone else besides Ancor thinks Class 1 is not useless. :-)
