Higher prices for new autos cause used car prices to rise also. It moves the marginal new car buyer to the used market.

I buy a lot more coffee than a bag a month. It is possible I spend more on coffee and sodas than I spend on gasoline!

I was just using it as an example of prices are going up due to tariffs and being passed on to customers.

Hard to say how many houses were lost due to not enough water pressure. It certainly isn't something we didn't know about. Back in 1906 after the big earthquake, most of SF was still standing but the water lines ruptured and they couldn't put out fires so much of the city burned down. During rebuilding, they added many reservoirs to the city to help with the next big one. My guess is LA spent the money on free health care, education for their kids and other goodies for illegal aliens rather than upgrading their infrastructure and policing.

Getting chip manufacturing back into the US as well as assembly into products, at least those used by the military, should remain a top priority. When I was in the business, I tried to argue with decision makers to keep production here but the tax incentives and savings to move overseas was too great. Tariffs are a F'ing stupid way to "fix the problem" and will fail unless we go to the root cause. I used to argue in high school with the liberal CA teachers that businesses in the US should be treated as a valuable resource that provide jobs and training and thus they should not pay taxes but we should tax their workers and make sure their workers are paid fairly. The socialists just don't understand that you can not FORCE people to work unless they are slaves and excess taxation is a high incentive to not work or not work very hard.
