Has anyone else seen the news??? No, I don't mean the SKB/Glaxo divorce - I mean the news about Baxter International buying out Somatogen- Remember, last summer Qdel announced that Mr Andre deBruin was being named as Qdel's new Vice Chairman- the subsequent 10-Q revealed an employment contract for Mr deBruin with some pretty healthy stock options for Qdel common as the price increased up to $15/share - it is clear from this contract that Mr deBruin has more than adequate financial incentive to see Qdel common trade up to $15/share. Remember, Mr deBruin is the former CEO of Boehringer Mannhein, one of the world's largest diagnostic companies and a $3 billion company- It is being bought by Roche and the deal, already approved by the EU, should be approved by the FTC shortly- the EU's approval was contingent upon BM getting rid of certain lines of in vitro diagnostics - I think there is a good chance Qdel will pick up some of these lines, products, whatever from BM in light of Mr deBruin's BM connection. Obviously, he was brought to Qdel for a reason and I suspect this may be it. What does all of this have to do w/ Somatogen??? Mr deBruin is currently the CEO of Somatogen and if the Baxter deal goes through, it looks like he will have a lot more time on his hands to devote to Quidel business. Any thoughts???
