We had an interesting few hours in Vancouver yesterday afternoon.

At around 2 pm there was suddenly a wind out of the east, the first real wind in days, and within an hour the air had cleared out enough for me to go outside. Then after a few hours it suddenly got extremely dark and then came some pretty heavy out of what was clearly a thunderhead, as evidenced by the boom of thunder.

Today it is still a but messy out there but definitely better.

Thursday was probably the worst day since the atmospheric river to try to get east out of Vancouver. The Coquihalla was still closed by fire, and the Fraser Canyon was closed by a bad crash, leaving only Highway 3, which is definitely not equipped for all that traffic, being narrow and often steep. Fortunately, all three routes are now open again.

So we are out of the smoke, mostly, on the north and south coastal areas of BC, with the forecast calling for cool and cloudy with showers for some days.

Ironically, the smoke in the rest of the province has helped with most of the 150 fires currently burning by cooling the temperatures.
