Whenever my kids applied to jobs, I told them they might get an interview for every 10th application, and it would take them as many as 10 interviews/100 applications to get an offer they'd like.

Lots of initial screenings are done by AI these days. Even before that was happening, since the GFC, HR software would sort through resumes and applications seeking certain key words. If those words were missing, the application would be rejected.

These are basics in modern day hiring, but lots of people may not yet be clued in to these nuances in the process.

I kind of know more about this stuff because I negotiated an enterprise size HRIS deal (HR Information Services), 10-year software deal for a multi-billion dollar corp. It was a turnkey solution by one of the big software companies. I also was part of the evaluation process before the cutdowns, so I reviewed all the big players in the industry.
