I remember 25-years ago going to membership clubs in China and seeing 25KG (55-lb) bags of rice and thinking who in the US would use that much rice?

Well, I'm using that much rice these days. I buy 25-lb. bags, and I go through one about every 4-5 months.

The rice prices are subsidized in China, so the rice prices are unbelievably cheap as well.

It sure was interesting going through places like Auchen and Carrefour in Shanghia and Wuxi back in the day. I also liked to go to the homecenters back then. When you bought a "house" in China (really, an apartment or condo), it was completely unfinished. Just the bare cement walls and floors. You would have to pay for everything from bathrooms, kitchen, flooring, ceiling, etc. yourself.

Quite a bit different than most other places on earth.
