Israel bombs six Arab countries over past month

The Israeli military strikes targeting Doha underscore Israel’s ever-expanding military campaign in the region.

Over the past weeks, Israel has been bombing Gaza in Palestine daily while also regularly carrying out strikes in Lebanon, Syria and Yemen.

Yesterday, a suspected Israeli drone also targeted a Gaza-bound humanitarian flotilla docked in Tunisia.

Israel launches ‘unprecedented’ strikes with ‘impunity’ during ceasefire talks

By Hamdah Salhut

Reporting from Amman, Jordan

Al Jazeera is reporting from Amman, Jordan, because it has been banned from Israel and the occupied West Bank.

The assassination attempt is a reminder of the rhetoric of Israeli officials who have said they will reach Hamas leaders wherever they are, similar to what they did to the group’s political leader Ismail Haniyeh, who was assassinated in Tehran.

These air strikes are surely unprecedented. The Israeli army says it took measures to mitigate civilian harm, but that’s to be taken with a grain of salt given how many civilians in the Gaza Strip have been killed over the past two years.

The Israeli military has been operating in the region with full impunity, with no consequences for any of their actions. They have attacked so many countries over the past few years, namely the Gaza Strip, the occupied West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Iran and now Qatar.

[Qatar] is a country that is hosting mediation efforts to reach a ceasefire, that has been working tirelessly to get to some sort of an agreement to end the war.

This is clearly going to be seen as an escalation because the Israeli army is operating in a way that they haven’t before, saying they are taking new measures, especially in light of the plans to seize Gaza City.

Targeted site in Doha ‘very close to residential buildings’

Al Jazeera correspondent Suhaib al-Assa reports the site that was targeted by Israel in Doha is in a residential neighbourhood, not an isolated area.

Al-Assa cited security officials as saying that their priority is to secure the scene and locate damage and casualties.

“The security procedures are very complex because we are talking about an extremely sensitive site,” he said.

Qatar slams ‘cowardly’ Israeli attack on Hamas in Doha

Majed Al-Ansari, spokesperson for Qatar’s foreign ministry, says in a statement that the country “condemns in the strongest terms” the attack, which he said was carried out on residential buildings housing several members of the Hamas political bureau.

“This criminal attack constitutes a flagrant violation of all international laws and norms and a serious threat to the security and safety of Qataris and residents of Qatar,” the statement reads.

“While strongly condemning this attack, the State of Qatar affirms that it will not tolerate this reckless Israeli behaviour and its continued tampering with regional security, as well as any action targeting its security and sovereignty. Investigations are under way at the highest level, and further details will be announced as soon as they become available.”

Attack comes as Hamas delegation was meeting to consider recent US proposal

By Nida Ibrahim

Reporting from Doha, Qatar

What has been happening already in Doha is that the Hamas delegation has been meeting to discuss the latest US proposal to bring a cessation of hostilities, as the Israeli forces have been pushing forward a plan to seize Gaza City.

We’ve been seeing this morning how the Israeli army has been asking people to leave, issuing evacuation threats and orders against Palestinians living inside Gaza asking them to move south.

And we can say, by many people who are observing, that this is yet another Israeli attempt to thwart any plan, any suggestion, any proposal to bring a cessation of hostilities.
