Little known fact, in North America (not sure about Europe, but certainly not so in Asia), parks are modeled after cemeteries. People used to go to cemeteries and have pic nicks and gatherings and what not. Eventually someone had the bright idea of why not have a cemetery without the dead and call it a park.

It's also interesting to visit old cemeteries and read the tombstones. On the really old ones, you will find various messages (e.g. people commenting on how the person really lived, owed money, and what not). I think there was even one where the widow essentially placed a personal ad on her late husband's stone, stating she is "comely and yearns to be comforted".
