A pet peeve of mine is movies set in the 70's or 80's that show rustbelt area cars in the background in pristine condition.

As most people know, cars in the northern US in that time were in an area known as the "Rust Belt."

The problem is, movies set in this period don't show any cars with rust on them. That's because cars that have survived this period have been either restored or never subjected to the elements that create rust.

I suspect lots of backgrounds these days are made by CGI. I hope they start getting more realistic about rust-belt cars in the depictions.

As someone who traversed these Rust Belt areas back in the day, I too often see the disparity between movie reality and actual reality.

Meanwhile, I am still ruing the night I rejected a girl who was dating an NHL star because I was trying to pick up a woman for me and my traveling companion. Her girlfriend wasn't going for that, so I passed. Lesson learned.
