Mexico, like Canada is locked into the US economy by massive trade arrangements, eclipsing trade with any other country. This reality gives the US leverage, enabling the US to impose sanctions and demand conditions. The US can inflict much damage to Mexico (and Canada). Mexico has imposed a 50% tariff on Chinese electric vehicles just a few days ago, to avoid crippling US sanctions. (Canada's similar tariffs on Chinese E.Vs. are 100%). (Unlike Mexico, no Chinese electric vehicles are sold in Canada.) To illustrate how much of Mexico's exports are US dependent, see below numbers.

Mexico Exports By Country

United States $503.26B 2024
Canada $18.61B 2024
China $9.08B 2024
Germany $7.13B 2024
Brazil $4.74B 2024
Japan $4.26B 2024
South Korea $4.07B 2024
United Kingdom $3.14B 2024
Guatemala $2.88B 2024
Colombia $2.81B 2024
Netherlands $2.21B 2024
Switzerland $1.53B 2024
Spain $1.48B 2024
Chile $1.25B 2024
Singapore etc .....

Brazil stands out as the big winner in terms of greatly expanded trade and investments of all sorts with China. Without doubt, the US is not blind to this reality. The trade war is deepening, the divide between US and China grows.
