The problem is that both conservatives and liberals, or rather a loud segment within both camps, has no tolerance for opposing views.

It's as absurd for any school to not teach evolution as it is to accept that everything is alive (e.g. the shinto or native American view that water is alive). And it is equally wrong to suppress a debate on whether they are alive or if men can become women.

Science is science. Facts are facts. Opinions are opinions. We can debate opinions, but facts are not subject to debate. They are a subject for scientific discovery via the scientific method. Nor are all opinions equally acceptable or respectable.

The problem is that certain segments of both camps want to shove their opinions as facts down everyone's throats. One side has over-sensitivity for someone not expressing sympathy for Charlie Kirk's death while at the same time opposing sensitivity training for other social issues. How are they different except on what they are sensitive about?

I often ask my kids to reflect on what they hear and tell me which parts are facts and which parts are opinions.

With some practice, it's not very hard to gain this skill. But nor is it trivial. I know of a lot of grown ups, some in retirement age, who still can't distinguish between the two.
