Tesla rallies to an eight-month high after Elon Musk buys more than $1B worth of shares

Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) CEO Elon Musk snapped up 2,568,732 shares of the company's stock, according to a new SEC filing. The shares were bought on September 12 in a price range of $371.38 to $396.54 per share.

The total amount of the Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) stock purchases was over $1 billion.

Elon Musk was given a new pay package by the Tesla ( TSLA) board that is a performance-based compensation plan that could be worth up to $1 trillion, making it reportedly the largest executive pay package in corporate history if all 12 targets are achieved. The pay package vests in 12 tranches and requires that Musk remain CEO for at least 7.5 years. Shareholders will vote on the compensation package at the annual meeting on November 6.

Shares of Tesla ( TSLA) jumped 6.0% in premarket trading on Monday to $419.50 after rising 7.4% on Friday. The stock trades at its highest level since the middle part of January.
