Most ambidextrous people start out left handed, but then start doing things right handed due to peer pressure or coercion.

Gladiator Daughter was a natural lefty, but her older twin brothers were right handed, so she did everything right handed to copy them.

When she was in high school, her ADD and dyslexia created a bit of a wall for her in math. I decided to have her do her math and English work left handed and the other subjects right handed.

This combined with some other tricks she came up with (creating her own practice quizes, orally recording her notes, etc) helped her get through high school.
She graduates university in a couple months, and I thought it necessary to remind her to continue taking her hand notes with either hand, depending on the subject (most kids take notes by computer these days).

She is one of those crazy people who can write perfectly with both hands at the same time.

I also always had her play softball throwing with either hand. If she ever got hurt with one arm, she could always throw with the other one. She always carried a right handed and a left handed glove. She always warmed up throwing both right handed and left handed.
