I'm not sure what constitutes a firearm has been definitively settled.

I suspect the word "fire" and "arm" is essential to settle the argument. A tank cannot reasonably be construed as a firearm. However, you could argue a shoulder-fired missile could be, as it can be a firing weapon sent from the shoulder, which is part of the arm.

Drones open up an entirely new front on the issue. You could fire a drone from your shoulder, and it could be a nuclear drone that deposits the armament hundreds of miles away.
