Flood warnings have been posted in southern/southeastern California (all the way to the Arizona border) for expected precipitation from the remnants of eastern Pacific Tropical Storm Mario. While only an inch or so of rain might be expected in the desert southwest areas, it is sufficient to cause minor flooding or even flash flooding in the event of a cloudburst. Right now the deserts are as dry as bones, so the water won't be able to penetrate the soil, and is likely to become flooding runoff. Rains in the area are expected as early as tonight and will continue intermittently through Friday night, dissipating late Friday into early Saturday.
