I am finding it useful to use AI to debunk fake news which is everywhere these days.

I saw a documentary on youtube talking about Voyager 1 sending strange signals.

So I checked and this was the response.

AI Overview

No, Voyager 1 has not received a meaningful signal from outer space. The signals it has been sending have been a problem, with the spacecraft transmitting gibberish for months until NASA engineers figured out it was a computer glitch, not an alien signal. While the possibility of extraterrestrial signals is an exciting topic, the signals Voyager 1 has been sending are not from outside the spacecraft but are its own internal communications problems.

What has been happening with Voyager 1's communications?

  • A communication issue:
Voyager 1 started sending unintelligible data in late 2023, a stream of alternating 0s and 1s that was not useful.

  • A computer glitch:
Engineers determined the problem was with the Flight Data System (FDS), one of the probe's onboard computers, which was responsible for packaging the data to send back to Earth.

  • A fix for the problem:
NASA sent commands to the spacecraft, and the team was able to understand the problem and then restore the ability to send usable data in April 2024.

  • A temporary fix using a backup transmitter:
In late 2024, Voyager 1 switched to a backup radio transmitter, allowing it to continue sending data despite the underlying problem with its primary transmitter.
