| | | Hey Bonefish, remember the lie you told me about Trump liking H-1B visa holders?
Trump Says the U.S. Will Institute $100,000 Fee for Skilled Worker Visas (NYTimes)
Nothing says "I like importing the best of the best" like taxing it to the tune of $100K per candidate.
Nutlick, of course, is coming up with bullshit justifications for the tax:
“Either the person is very valuable to the company and America, or they’re going to depart, and the company is going to hire an American,” Howard Lutnick, the commerce secretary, said at the signing. “And that’s the point of immigration: Hire Americans and make sure the people coming in are the top, top people.” But that's the thing. The "top, top people" aren't going to come here now. He's assuming that there are people who are so valuable that the biggest and richest companies will be more than happy to pay an extra $100K for them, but it doesn't work that way. All it means is that the company will be paying $300K to hire a worker who is worth $200K, and not all of that money will be going to that worker.
By the way, the fukker claims that all the big companies are for this, but there is no confirmation of that.
Moreover, this will SCREW over startups in Silicon Valley, who quite frankly can't afford this shit.
I hope you're happy, Bonefish, especially given that you have no skin in this game.
