Peter, At H&Q LGND had indicated that something would happen "very soon" with the GLYC technology. I'm not sure if that comment was inference to last night's press release, or a prediction of a larger deal. Last night I also indicated that the press release really looked like a patent infringement agreement since it was non-exclusive and the royalty rate on future CYTL products was tied to the number of patents involved (infringed upon). I suspect that there are many GLYC patents and they were included in the 200 "issued patents" and possibly also in the 200 "pending patents".

LGND is very strong and broad in the patent area (not coincidentally, they are also in the same position vis-a-vis core technologies - earlier this month The Rockefeller was awarded a broad STATs patent, which LGND has exclusively licensed - and pipeline - which LGND says is the best in the business).
