How about a little Bible study?
Genesis 12 King James Version 1 Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee: 2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: 3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
The other night, I listened to Ted Cruz quote this passage of scripture, and he applied it to the nation of Israel. He went on to say that God would bless the United States to the degree that the US blessed the nation of Israel. He is not the only one I have heard say this, and it is a catastrophic error. This promise from God was given to the individual Abraham and not to any nation. God did bless Abraham and his wife, Sarah. Both were well past the age of having children, but God blessed them with children. This seed of Abraham eventually led to all families of the earth being blessed with the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. The final destruction of the nation of Israel in 70 AD fulfilled the cursing of Israel by Jesus Christ. Read Mathew chapters 23 and 24. They were slaughtered and carried away into slavery. Jerusalem was destroyed, and not one stone of the Temple was left upon another. Matthew 23:32 Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers. 33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell? 34 Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: 35 That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar. 36 Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation. 37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! 38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.
Then, before Pilate, the Jews sealed their fate. Pilate wished to release Christ, but the Jews wanted Him dead. Matthew 27:24 When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it. 25 Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.
God's utter rejection of Judaism was symbolized at the death of Christ when the veil of the temple was ripped in two from the top to the bottom by God. This veil was woven and was four inches thick. 60 feet high and thirty feet wide. The veil represented the barrier between God and man. That barrier is gone and every person now can have access to God through the blood of Jesus that was shed for our sins.
Mark 15:37-39 37 And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost. 38 And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom. 39 And when the centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God. Hebrews 10: 19,20 19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;
Finally, I draw your attention to the teaching of the apostle Paul. Here is the definitive statement concerning who is a Jew since the coming of Jesus Christ and his becoming the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. Galatians 3:29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. Romans 2: 28-29 28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: 29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.
There are many reasons why this study is so important to us today. One important reason is that so much of the foreign policy of the United States is based on a false premise. |
